While there has been speculation regarding a possible trade involving Islanders' captain John Tavares this summer, those rumors became much more serious today when they were acknowledged by respected insider Darren Dreger.
If you missed Dreger's comments you can check out our earlier report here, but now yet another respected insider has commented on the rumors. Newsday's Arthur Staple, arguably the best Islanders insider in the business had this to say:
"A scenario we've all been kicking around for a while: If Tavares extension talks go south, Isles likely have to trade him this summer."
Again, like Dreger before him Staples in no way is suggesting that Tavares being traded is the most likely outcome in this scenario. That being said, the mere fact that so many big names in the media are now talking about this as a real possibility is extremely interesting to put it mildly.
