Washington Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom has been named the NHL’s 3rd Star for the week of Oct 9th - 15th.

The 29-year-old center put up three goals and nine points in four games this past week, bringing his season total up to an astounding 11 points in just six games.

With all the turnover in Washington this past offseason, it’s been the team’s core of Backstrom, Alex Ovechkin and Braden Holtby who have steered the team thus far. While they may not achieve the regular season heights that they did a year ago, don’t count out the Caps just yet. Led by the Backstrom/Ovechkin dynamic up front, they’re still a very dangerous team and could surprise some people come this Spring’s playoffs.
