The injury bug seems hungry for Detroit Red Wings players, this year. In what is already turning out to be a rough start to their 2016-2017 regular season schedule, the Red Wings can't catch a break as they've had issues with staying out of the infirmary. 


Yesterday, Justin Abdelkader was diagnosed with a sprained MCL which will keep him out the lineup for a minimum of two to four weeks. This morning, he was placed on the seven-day injured reserve.


Now, it appears that promising rookie forward Andreas Athanasiou will miss more than the initial seven days he was also slated to. Moments ago, we've learned that hehas been placed on the long-term injured reserve retroactive to November 11th:




To date, there are no clear timelines set for either players.
