Breaking: Bettman suggests the Penguins are attempting to manipulate NHL officials.

National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman held a press conference on Monday and while many expected it to be uneventful it was anything but. 

While there were a number of significant announcements from Bettman during the press conference, including the location of the 2018 NHL All-Star Game, his most significant statement came in regards to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Bettman was asked about the comments made by Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford made today regarding the treatment of star forward Sidney Crosby, and Bettman's response was a surprising one. 

According to TSN's Frank Seravalli, Bettman suggested that the comments from the Penguins amounted to an attempt at "tweaking the officials," and furthermore suggested that he felt the timing of the comments was "odd."

Given how Bettman feels about this situation one has to wonder if NHL officials will be instructed on how to interpret the comments from Rutherford.
