Breaking: Blues’ star goalie in hot water over racist tweets!
Twitter

Jordan Binnington has been seen as the hero for the St. Louis Blues as he helped save their season in the second half. He is now hoping for a deep run into the Stanley Cup playoffs, however, the spot light is currently on him for very different reasons…

Late on Tuesday day, as the Blues got their last night of sleep before the first game of the series against the Jets in Winnipeg, Paul Gackle, a California-based sports reporter who usually covers San Jose Sharks dug up three old tweets from Binnington’s verified account which revealed some very controversial content.

Binnington's account is indeed verified as he goes by the Twitter handle @binnnasty. While he hasn't tweeted since January, he has just over 12,600 followers.

The first two posts that were exposed by Gackle were made when Binnington was 19 years old and was playing in his final season in the Ontario Hockey League.

The third tweet was posted on Oct. 21, 2014, when Binnington was in his second year of pro hockey with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.

Now that the controversial tweets from Binnington have come to light, the young goalie needed to comment on it after practice on Wednesday. While he may explain he was trying to be funny, the NHL and sensible fans across the league will not accept this as humour.

“It was a while ago when I was a teenager. It was a little sarcasm and joking around. That’s what life is about, you live and learn and you grow as a human. I’m just here to play a couple hockey games.”

Let's see if it will affect his focus heading into Game 1 of the series against the Jets tonight. Karma might be a player too…

Binnington has a record of 24-5-1 this season with a 1.89 goals-against average and .927 save percentage.
