Detroit Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson might be close to a foot taller that Ottawa Senators rookie Brady Tkachuk: it did not stop the kid from dropping the gloves for a spirited fight.

During the first period of the game between the Red Wings and the Senators, Ericsson came it hot, a little too hot for Tkachuk and both players decided to drop the mitts behind Jimmy Howard's net.

The crowd got going as both men got strong punches into the bout, however, it seemed like Ericsson got the edge on that one.

It did not stop Brady's father, the famous Keith Tkachuk from standing up and applauding his son for his courage and intensity in the fight. The Sens rookie did not back down and was right back at it on the ice once he got out of the penalty box.

Keith isn't as enthusiastic as the parents of Boston Bruins rookie Trent Frederic, who made quite the impression during his first NHL game when things got intense between the Bruins and the Winnipeg Jets. Frederic took on Brandon Tanev as both players dropped the gloves and it's easy to say that the young rookie got the better of the bout. Frederic hammered Tanev to the ice with a flurry of punches as the crowd cheered him on and his parents were filmed trying to high five each other and then cheering and getting congratulations from people sitting around them as they were jumping for joy that their boy got in a fight.

Still, we can tell Keith is happy that his son can use all of his assets this season with the Senators...

Later in the same period, Tkachuk scored the first goal for the Senators, to tie the game at 1. He needs an assist for the Gordie Howe Hat Trick.
