The Boston Bruins are being hit hard by iinjury issues early in the season.

The latest update comes off the heels of reports that forward David Backes was dealing with a "minor issue" something that now appears to be considerably more serious after reports surfaced today suggesting Backes went under the knife.

According Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe, the injured forward "underwent the removal of the olecranon bursa from his elbow," that is to say Backes required surgery to fix an issue with his elbow.

While the Bruins are now admitting he will miss games and will have his status updated after the week-end, Bruins insider Joe Haggerty claims it's more likely to be a matter of weeks not days.

From Haggerty:

The Bruins look like they’ll be without gritty veteran forward David Backes for at least the next couple of games, and probably more like the next couple of weeks.
