The Montreal Canadiens are having an usual bad start to the 2017-18 season, and with close to $9 million in the bank to improve the team, rumours are constantly being heard about a big move coming to the Habs.

And Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman believes it is coming... The insider was on NHL Network last night, before the Habs's sixth consecutive loss, and mention what might be coming up for the Canadian team.

“I think the Canadiens are under a tremendous amount of heat with the start they’ve gotten off to," Friedman commented.

“I think the other thing that’s happening there right now is they’ve got $9 million in cap space. And everybody is sitting there saying, ‘What are they going to do with it.’ I think the Canadiens are going to hold that cap space to make the biggest move that they potentially can.

“And look – we heard the owner’s comments about John Tavares. If it ever becomes a situation where he goes on the market or becomes available, they’re going to be all-in. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they hold their cap space until something potentially like that becomes available, no matter how many wolves are baying at the moon.”

The Canadiens have been linked to Tavares for several weeks now, and now that things are getting out of control, GM Marc Bergevin might be on the verge of making a blockbuster move.

We know he is not afraid to do so - and has in the past. But now, what will be sacrificed to get the much-needed help up front?
