Breaking: Canucks call up top prospect!

The Vancouver Canucks called up goaltender Thatcher Demko and defenseman Patrick Wierchioch, the team announced on Monday. 


Demko, 21, was drafted 36th overall by the Canucks in 2014. He began his professional career last season, after spending three seasons with Boston College (NCAA), posting a record of 22-17-4, .907 save percentage and 2.68 GAA with the Utica Comets of the AHL. So far this season, he had a record of 3-1-0 in four games with the Comets, with an excellent 1.26 goals against average. 

Wierchioch, 27, was drafted 42nd overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2008. The Canucks signed him as a free agent last summer. The Canadian defenseman played 268 games in the NHL, registering 74 points.
