A former Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick is set to finally make his National Hockey League debut.
28-year-old Chris DiDomenico will suit up for the Ottawa Senators tonight for the first game of his NHL career despite the fact that he was drafted into the league a decade earlier.
DiDomenico was drafted in the sixth round of the 2007 NHL draft but only spent a very brief time in the American Hockey League before eventually going to play in both Italy and Sweden for several years. The Senators signed him as a free agent out of Europe and tonight he is finally set to make his long-awaited debut.
Despite being an extremely experienced professional at this point, DiDomenico admits that being in the NHL still has him a little nervous.
I’ve been around the game quite a bit," he said as per the Ottawa Citizen. "It’s going to be the first NHL game, so you’re always going to have jitters, but I think that will go away after a little bit.”
