In case you missed it, the injury ravaged Boston Bruins defense corps took another hit last night and it was potentially the biggest hit the team can suffer. Captain Zdeno Chara collided with Colorado Avalanche and former Bruins forward Carl Soderberg in the second period and did not return. Chara appeared to buckle his left knee when making contact with Soderberg and… well let’s just say it’s not a pretty sight.

Check it out:

Ouch… that hurts just to LOOK at.

No official update fro the Bruins on Chara yet, but the team did confirm that the captain has a lower body injury.

If Chara misses any significant length of time he’ll join fellow B’s blue liners Kevan Miller, Charlie McAvoy, Urho Vaakanainen and Brandon Carlo on the injured reserve. In effect, the Bruins are missing their top three right sided defensemen… and their top pairing altogether. With all due respect to Matt Gryzlecyk, he’s NOT a top pairing defenseman in the NHL.

In response, the Bruins have called up blue liner Connor Clifton from the AHL’s Providence Bruins, this according to Providence insider Mark Divver:
