Breaking: Controversial player off the trading block!

The Andreas Athanasiou saga has been seemingly never-ending - but it appears that we may finally have a resolution as early as this week.

Nick Kypreos on Hockey Night in Canada reported that the Detroit Red Wings have no interest in trading their top young talent.

“(The Red Wings) have also made it clear that there is no appetite to trade him,” Kypreos said. “They like him, they see him in their plans. They want to move forward.”

Detroit has not and will not back off from their 2-year $3.9 million offer. Athanasiou is seeking $2.5 million per year. At this point, Detroit will simply accept that the player spends the year overseas, or hope that the player swallows his pride and signs a deal.

Either way you shake it, Detroit has no interest in trading him. So if you're a fan of another team hoping that your GM lands Athanasiou, you can probably forget about it.
