Breaking: Corey Perry gets bought out!

The Anaheim Ducks are reportedly done with veteran forward Corey Perry.

According to TSN Senior hockey writer Frank Seravalli, the Ducks are finalizing paperwork to buy out Perry’s contract this morning. Due to his no-move clause, he is not expected to be placed on waivers.

Last week, Seravalli’s colleague Pierre LeBrun confirmed that Perry had played his last game as a Duck. While Anaheim had been looking at potential trade options, it seems like a contract buyout is the best way to get rid of Perry.

He still counted for $8.625 million against the cap for the 2019 - 2020 NHL regular season and for the 2020-21 NHL regular season as well and anyone who watched him play this season would tell you that he is in no way worth that kind of money anymore. The Ducks would have had to get very creative in order to find a team willing to take on Perry’s contract.

This is what makes most sense to the Ducks and unfortunately calls it an end for Perry in Anaheim. He will therefore join the free agent pool this summer.
