Breaking: Crucial update on a possible Ryan Nugent-Hopkins trade

The Edmonton Oilers showed their growing potential last season, making it to the playoffs for the first time in 11 years. But they're off to a really bad start this year, with only 10 wins in 26 games.

It is fair to believe general manager Peter Chiarelli might want to shake things up a little. Some people suggested that trading former first-overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins could be the answer.

However, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman doesn't believe it is going to happen, except if someone makes Chiarelli an offer he can't refuse. Here's what he said on Calgary's Sportsnet 960, on Friday:

"I know Nugent-Hopkins’ name is out there. I’m not convinced that Peter Chiarelli wants to do it. I think also that if he does do it, I think the price is going to be extremely high. I just think he’d like to do something. He doesn’t want to do anything he’s going to regret. I think that’s a sign that he hasn’t made a trade already that he’s being very careful.
“I think what they’re looking at is sort of the depth players on their roster, and he’s willing to make moves like that.
“I do think he’s in on Ian Cole, but I think the price is high from Pittsburgh and I’m not sure he wants to pay that."

The former first-overall pick amassed nine goals and just as many assists for 18 points in 26 games this year.
