It appears that the St. Louis Blues have found a way to maximize the trade value of soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Kevin Shattenkirk.

TSN insider Darren Dreger was asked about how the Blues were going to get the most out of the deal on a recent segment of Insider Trading, and it appears that they will look to use the National Hockey League version of the "Sign & Trade."

"Trade and extend," said Dreger. "That's a way Shattenkirk can control the process, he doesn't have a no-trade clause so he doesn't have a lot of options."

Dreger believes that Shattenkirk is willing to accept such a deal to a number of different teams and while some of the names had already come up in rumors earlier in this week, Dreger did name a few surprises.

"It sounds like Shattenkirk is willing to consider several options: the Toronto Maple Leafs, the New York Rangers, the Boston Bruins, Detroit, San Jose, Anaheim and going back to Colorado is a possibility as well."

It sounds things like things may be developing quickly in St. Louis.
