It appears that just a few short months have completely changed the Red Wings philosophy as far as keeping their draft picks and draft prospects in house. According to Damien Cox of Sportsnet, the Red Wings have made it known that they are now willing to deal their 1st round pick in 2015 as well as their first pick in 2013 Anthony Mantha. Mantha has since fallen out of favor internally with the Red Wings organization and there's a real belief now that he may end up being a draft bust. Detroit fans will remember that it was general manager Ken Holland's unwillingness to trade Mantha that prevented them from acquiring Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf at the trade deadline. Not only would it have made Phaneuf a Red Wing, but perhaps more importantly it would have guaranteed Stephen Weiss would never again be in a Red Wings uniform. Cox did not elaborate on his report so at this time it's unclear who or what the Red Wings are trying to acquire.
