According to a report from The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun, the Philadelphia Flyers have hired former Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks general manager Dean Lombardi.
Lombardi, of course, was GM in LA when Ron Hextall worked underneath him as an assistant general manager. Lombardi also acted as a scout with the Flyers organization before being hired in LA, so he’ll be no stranger to the team’s management group.
Lombardi was fired by the Kings this offseason and replaced with former Kings player and Hall of Fame member Rob Blake. The former GM was the mastermind behind the team's 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup championships, but a rash of bad contracts to players like Dustin Brown, Marian Gaborik and Jonathan Quick have hampered the team the past few seasons.
