Breaking: Ducks sign NCAA MVP goaltender
Keystone Press

The Anaheim Ducks have announced that they’ve re-signed 25 year-old goaltender Kevin Boyle to a one year, $675,000 contract. Boyle split the 2016-17season, his first pro campaign, between the Ducks’ AHL affiliate in San Diego and ECHL affiliate in Utah. At the AHL level, the former Hockey East 2015-16 Goaltender of the Year and Hockey East Co-Player of the Year posted a 10-5-1 record with a 2.27 GAA and .924 Sv%. Not bad for a rookie. He’ll likely receive considerable more starts in 2017-18 as he looks to prove himself as a viable NHL option.

Boyle had an outstanding NCAA career prior to signing with the Ducks last spring. The 6-2, 200-pound goaltender was the first player in Hockey East history to win conference Player of the Year honors as a Second-Team All-Conference selection. Boyle shared Player of the Year honors with Boston College goaltender Thatcher Demk and was also named Hockey East Tournament MVP after going 3-1-0 with a 1.24 GAA and .958 SV% in four games.
