Breaking: Erik Karlsson done for the remainder of the regular season.

With their playoff position secured the Ottawa Senators have made the decision to shut down defenseman Erik Karlsson for the remainder of the regular season.

The decision makes a great deal of sense, Karlsson has not been 100% for some time now and there have been a couple of scares in recent weeks that appeared to indicate that things weren't getting better.

Shutting him down will give him up to a full weeks of rest, and perhaps more importantly recovery, and should allow the Senators to begin the playoffs with a healthier Erik Karlsson in their line up.

While it may impact the Senators play prior to the postseason, this seems like the best long-term move from the team.
