Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane has been at the center of trade rumors for seemingly his entire career. And now that the trade deadline is just a couple of days away, these rumors have just gotten more and more intense. In fact, it has become extremely clear that the 26-year-old, who is going to be a free agent next July, is going to get traded soon.

Sabres' head coach Phil Housley has just confirmed that Kane will be sitting out tonight's game against the Washington Capitals. He added that this decision is in Kane's best interest:

We reported earlier this week that NHL insider Darren Dreger said that talks are picking back up for the top forward, during a segment of Insider Trading on TSN

"Things have picked up this week, no question about that. I believe that Jason Botterill has at least a couple of offers that he might consider but it sounds like there could be more player involvement as opposed to picks and prospects and the Buffalo Sabres are more interested in draft picks or top prospects. There’s time between now and the deadline on Monday and the interest will increase as the days continue."

Back in January, the price tag to land Kane was reported to be very steep. It started out with Pierre LeBrun reporting that Botterill sought a first-round draft pick, a prospect and a conditional pick. Dreger then followed that up in saying there are teams claiming Botterill also wants an NHL roster player included in that package.

In 60 games this season, Kane scored 20 goals and added just as many assists for 40 points. He played a total of 557 NHL games with the Atlanta Thrashers, who later became the Winnipeg Jets, and the Sabres. He recorded a total of 340 points over this period.

More details to come.
