Breaking: Evgeni Malkin fires at shot at Alexander Ovechkin!
That came out of nowhere!
HockeyFeed
The primary rivalry for Russian superstar Alexander Ovechkin has always focused on his Canadian counterpart Sidney Crosby, however it's important not to forget that Evgeni Malkin is also somewhere in that mix.
On Wednesday Malkin seemingly took a shot at Ovechkin over the whole Olympic controversy when he was asked himself about whether or not he intended to participate in spite of the decision made by Gary Bettman and the National hockey League.
"I am not Ovechkin. Putin doesn't call me," said Malkin as per Russian hockey reporter Slava Malamud.
Ovechkin's close relationship with Russian president Vladimir Putin has long been documented, and it's unclear if Malkin means that he won't be facing the same pressures as Ovechkin, or if parents he won't have the same support that Ovechkin has from the Russian government.
It will be very interesting to see if Ovechkin fires back at the Penguins forward when he's made aware of these comments.
