The Calgary Flames may have found an answer to their goaltending issues.

According to a report from the New York Post's Larry Brooks, the Flames are currently one of the teams attempting to acquire veteran backup goaltender Antti Raanta from the New York Rangers. However according to Brooks the Flames will have completion from another Canadian franchise. From the New York Post:

The Flames and the Jets are believed to be among the clubs who have contacted the Rangers regarding a pre-expansion draft trade for Raanta, but management has not yet committed to dealing him or has not yet received an offer pushing them to that conclusion.

The Rangers have to be acutely aware of the fact that failing to trade Raanta would almost certainly result in him being claimed by the Golden Knights in the expansion draft. As a result it makes a great deal of sense to make a trade and get a return prior to losing him for nothing to Las Vegas.

The question now of course becomes who will make the best offer for Raantaa.
