Breaking: Flames trio passed through waivers unclaimed
Keystone Press

Calgary Flames forwards Hunter Shinkaruk and Emilie Poirier and defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon all cleared waivers this morning unclaimed and will report to the team’s AHL affiliate the Stockton Heat.

While the news is not entirely surprising given the struggles that each player has had the past few seasons, a lot of Flames fans thought that another NHL team may take a flyer on one of the youngsters.

Shinkaruk, in particular, seems to have some untapped potential, despite his abysmal production at the NHL level. The former 24th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft was a 49 goal scorer at the junior level, but hasn’t been able to translate his game to the NHL.

What’s your take? Do any of these guys still have NHL potential? Or is it time to cut ties and walk away?
