The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that they’ve signed Russian prospect Mikhail Vorobyov to an entry-level contract that begins with the 2017-18 season.

The news was broke late night by TVA Sports reporter Renaud Lavoie over Twitter:

Vorobyov was the Flyers’ fourth round selection in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and has played that past team seasons for the KHL’s Ufa Salivate Yulayev. The 6’2, 194” centerman could compete for a roster spot on the Flyers as early as next season. In 44 games this past season, the 20 year-old put up three goals and 11 points playing against much more experienced professionals. Some seasoning in the AHL with the Flyers’ affiliate in Lehigh Valley may be best for the youngster, but regardless of where he ends up playing next season Flyers fans have to be happy with the depth that general manager Ron Hextall has acquired through astute drafting and developing.
