Breaking: Flyers name alternate captains for 2017-18 season

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that Valteri Filppula and Andrew MacDonald have been named alternate captains for the 2017-18 NHL season. The pair will split duties, with one wearing the “A” for home games and the other for road games. The decision was made as a result of a player’s vote within the team.

Filpula was acquired by the Flyers from the Tampa Bay Lightning in advance of last season’s NHL Trade Deadline. The 33-year-old veteran has played 795 NHL games scoring 157 goals and 430 points.

MacDonald was acquired by the Flyers from the New York Islanders in a 2014 trade. He has managed 131 points in 473 regular season games with the Flyers and Islanders in his 10 NHL seasons.
