We have a very surprising announcement out of Arizona.

According to a breaking news report from Arizona Coyotes insider Sarah McLellan, the Coyotes have informed 26-year-old center Peter Holland that he will not receive a qualifying offer from the organization.

While it will not be official until the 1st of July, this move effectively makes Holland an unrestricted free agent, meaning he will now be free to sign with any team in the National Hockey League, assuming of course that team offers him a contract.

This is a surprising move given how many teams in the NHL are desperate for depth up the middle of the ice, as well as given the fact that Holland was a first round pick just 8 years ago now.

Holland was a staple of the Leafs roster prior to being traded for Arizona for a conditional draft pick, however it seems unlikely that the Leafs would reach out to him and offer him a deal given their current group of young forwards.
