Breaking: Former NHL superstar was deceived out of nearly 80 million dollars.

One of the National Hockey League's superstars was reportedly the victim of a massive scam.

According to a report out of Russia on Friday from reporter Igor Eronko, former NHL great Sergei Federov lost huge sums of money when he made the mistake of trusting one of his close friends.

Eronko's report reveals that prior to his hockey career in Russia after the NHL, Federov had lost everything. It's unclear exactly how much Federov lost in the scam but Eronko reports that Federov earned over 80 million dollars during his NHL career and that he lost "all the money he earned in the NHL."

Federov is said to have been "deceived" by his close friend, but no further details were provided on just how he was scammed of such a large sum of money. Throughout the history of sport there have been stories of athletes being exploited financially, and it's sad to learn that one of the NHL's all-time greats was himself a victim.
