BREAKING: Forward Practices as Defenseman

During the course of the preseason, the Toronto Maple Leafs had signed veteran forward and tough guy Brandon Prust to a professional tryout contract. The unrestricted free agent, who spent most of last season with the Vancouver Canucks, was placed on waivers in February and joined the Canucks’ AHL affiliate in Utica. He would suffer an ankle injury that kept him sidelined for the remainder of the season, and became a free agent on July 1st.

Unfortunately for Prust, he would not crack the Maple Leafs’ lineup despite doing what he can to show that he belonged during training camp. Of his own recognisance, the 32-year-old opted to stick around and continues to practice with the team nevertheless.

The kicker? Today, it was reported that the enforcer was practicing as a defenseman as opposed to his usual role as a forward. He trained alongside Frank Corrado in an attempt to give head coach Mike Babcock four defensive pairings.

It is still unclear what Prust intends on doing, but his continuous practicing surely indicates that he believes a team will require his services sooner than later.
