The Montreal Canadiens have just pulled off a major move, one that benefits both the player and their club. The Canadiens acquired soon to be free agent Jeff Petry at the trade deadline in a deal with the Edmonton Oilers and they were extremely satisfied with the way he played for them at the end of the regular season and in the playoffs. So much so i nfact that Marc Bergevin made it clear resigning Petry was one of his top priorities for this offseason. Well he's now done just that and the Montreal Canadiens have announced that Petry has been locked up for the next 6 years. According to a report from Chris Johnston of Sportsnet the deal is reportedly worth $33 million dollars which will mean a $5.5 million dollar cap hit annually. Petry's new deal also includes some form of a no-trade clause belived to be only a partial no trade although the details on that particular nuance in the deal are still unclear.
