A general manager has confirmed that he is currently engaged in negotiations with National Hockey League legend Jaromir Jagr, and unfortunately it sounds like it could be bad news for fans in North America.
The general manager for HC Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk of the Kontinental Hockey League has confirmed to Russian hockey insider reporter Igor Eronko of Sports-Express that he's in talks with Jagr's representatives, and also believes they have the money to make the deal a reality.
Now in late September Jagr is still rather surprisingly still without an NHL contract, and this is the first sign that he is seriously contemplating the possibility of playing in the KHL this season.
Of course one more NHL season for Jagr would have allowed him to continue to threaten a number of NHL records and him signing in the KHL would be a huge disappointment for long-time fans of hockey, and likely for Jagr himself.
One more thing to consider here is the fact that Jagr would be eligible to play in the 2018 Olympics if he were to sign ion the KHL, and one last chance to represent his home country in the Olympics may also be a motivating factor here.
