Breaking: Goaltender O’Connor inks a new deal
Keystone Press

Just one day before the official opening of the NHL’s free-agency period, Andy Strickland of Fox Sports Midwest is reporting that the Nashville Predators have signed 25 year-old goaltender Matt O’Connor.

O’Connor was a hot prospect coming out of college hockey with Boston University and signed a deal with the Ottawa Senators during the 2015 offseason, but so far has failed to live up to the hype that warranted the signing sweepstakes for his services two seasons ago.

In two seasons with the Sens’ AHL affiliate in Binghampton, O’Connor produced a 34-38-4 record  and posted back-to-back .895 Sv% seasons. His 3.31 and 3.23 GAA statistic in each of his first two pro seasons leave much to be desired, as well.

At just 25 years of age and facing a new opportunity with a new team in front of him, there’s a chance that O’Connor can develop into an NHL goaltender still. Here’s hoping him all the best in Nashville!
