Great news for Laval Rocket defenseman Eric Gelinas, who was supposed to be a healthy scratch for tonight's game against the Toronto Marlies. The 26-year-old defenseman was told this morning that he wasn't in the lineup because of his poor performances, but Chris Terry's injury gave him a great opportunity to show what he's got.
Just a few minutes before the game, head coach Sylvain Lefebvre told him he was going to play. RDS journalist Patrick Friolet broke the news on his Twitter account, earlier tonight.
Gelinas has been struggling since the start of the 2017-18 season. He wanted to play in the NHL this year, and was hoping to impress the Canadiens' management during the training camp. However, he ended up signing a one-year deal in the AHL instead.
He played five games this year with Laval, in which he scored one goal and recorded a +/- ratio of -4.
