Now, the 2018 Olympics are already set to create uproar with the National Hockey League's decision to not allow its players to attend and represent their country next February in Pyeongchang, South Korea. But now, another scandal appears to be brewing and it involves a country that was looking to win the gold medal in hockey.

With the NHLers unable to play, Russia was looking like one of the favourites to become champions, with many players from the Kontinental Hockey League representing their country.

However, it has been reported that there is a controversy brewing as the KHL made a statement on Friday morning.  President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach has condemned calls for the disqualification of Russia from the Winter Olympics. On Wednesday, IOC handed life bans to two Russian skiers, Alexander Legkov and Evgeniy Belov, on the basis of the evidence provided by the Oswald Commission, which is tasked with examining evidence of sample tampering at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.

Because of that and the controversy surrounding it, the KHL has made a shocking statement following IIHF president Rene Fasel's support to the players looking to represent a neutral flag.

The International Olympic Committee and the World Anti-Doping Agency were at odds over whether Russia should have competed in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. The Russian doping scheme is still being discussed by the International Olympic Committee.

There is less than 100 days before the Olympics... The clock is ticking.
