The Detroit Red Wings and their fans know all too well about the knee issues of defenseman Niklas Kronwall, and while it's unclear how severe that issue still is, we do know that it's still an issue.

According to multiple reports the Red Wings defenseman has been officially ruled out of the World Cup of Hockey, prompting Team Sweden to remove him from their active roster and announcing a pretty exciting replacement in Anaheim Ducks' defenseman Hampus Lindholm.

It's like a big blow to Kronwall, but he did opt to avoid surgery this summer and there is a belief that this may be the reason why either he or the Red wings medical staff have opted for an additional month of rest and rehab prior to the start of the regular season.

It's totally understandable if the Red Wings were the ones to make the call however, the Stars made a similar decision in regards to Jamie Benn earlier this week.
