Breaking: Jets sign young defenseman to his first NHL deal.

The Winnipeg Jets have added a new defenseman, but he won't be having an impact this season.

On Thursday the Jets announced the signing of Tucker Poolman to a one-year National Hockey League contract. According to the team's official website, Poolman will earn a very respectable $1,775,000 on that deal.

The 23-year-old defenseman has spent the last three years of his career with the University of North Dakota where he developed into what many feel is an NHL ready player. Poolman however is currently inured and will require surgery, that means he will not be joing the Jets for the regular season or the playoffs, and may even be delayed coming in to training camp.

Nonetheless a quality addition for the Jets organization.
