The Tampa Bay Lightning may have made a decision hanging on to Jonathan Drouin past the trade deadline. For starters it seemed like Steve Yzerman's plan was to get him to come back to the team after he told Drouin and his agent the door was still open, but Drouin shot that down making it clear he was done in Tampa Bay.

The bad news for the Lightning is the fact that Drouin may have lost significant trade value today after the National Hockey League's deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed to Sportsnet insider Chris Johnston that despite Drouin's suspension from the team they Lightning have burnt a a year off his entry-level deal this season. There was some belief that Tampa Bay would look to toll Drouin's contract as a result of his suspension, but Daly shot that down.

“We haven’t previously had a practice of allowing clubs to toll partial season breaches,” Daly wrote Thursday in an email. “Had this been the last season of the contract, however, we may have entertained an argument for ‎some form of remedy or relief in this situation.”

This will without a doubt mean a lower return for Drouin this summer when he has one less year on his entry-level deal.
