Breaking: Karlsson may be out for longer than expected

The Ottawa Senators were hoping to have the services of star defenseman Erik Karlsson tonight against the Detroit Red Wings, but the player has been ruled out for the game.

What's even worse is that he may not play for at least another week.

The Sens visit Western Canada following tonight's matchup, heading to B.C. to face off against the Vancouver Canucks before travelling to Calgary and Edmonton.

Ottawa won't be back home until October 17th when the Canucks visit. If Karlsson doesn't make the West Coast trip, it'll be minimum a week until his highly-anticipated return.
