The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has issued a big suspension.
Following an incident that occurred Saturday night in Colorado during a match up between the Colorado Avalanche and the Calgary Flames, Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog has received a four-game suspension.
Landedskog received a penalty for a rather blatant crosscheck to the head and face of Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk, but he actually delivered a pair of crosschecks on the play.
Despite the fact that Landeskog is not a repeat offender, NHL Player Safety has categorized this as both a reckless and forceful blow to the head of Tkachuk and therefore has handed out a rather harsh suspension for the play.
