Breaking: Leafs expose top scorer in NHL Expansion Draft
But they elect to protect Matt Martin? What’s going on here?

The youth movement appears to be over in Toronto. Despite producing the third highest points-per-game average in the AHL for players under the age of 24, forward Brendan Leipsic was left unprotected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the upcoming NHL Expansion Draft.
In 49 games with the Toronto Marlies in 2016-17, Leipsic produced 18 goals and 51 points, good enough for a points-per-game average of 1.041. IN the NHL with the Leafs, he put up three points in just six games and seemed to fit in well with the team’s bottom six forward group.
It’s interesting that a team who has had so much success by turning its roster over to youth, would elect to protect a marginal veteran player like Matt Martin over a promising forward like Leipsic.
