Breaking: Leafs make a stunning line up change tonight.
Keystone Press

The Toronto Maple Leafs, and more specifically head coach Mike Babcock, has made a shocking change to the line up this evening.

As many of you will know by now, Babcock made some highly-publicized comments this week towards a reporter who had questioned why he was not pairing Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner on the same line together.

“The beauty of this is when you get to coach the team, you’ll get to do what you want,” Babcock said Monday morning. “When I coach the team, I do what I want. This is what I think – I like to win every night. That’s what I try to do."

However the combination appeared to pay off for the Maple Leafs and now despite the fact that Babcock made it clear his preference was to keep the two young stars on separate lines, he has made them his starters this evening.

Jonas Siegel of The Athletic is reporting that Babcock will be starting a top line of Matt Martin, Auston Matthews and Mitcher Marner this evening, seemingly reversing his stance on the issue in just a few short days. It's hard to know what to make of such a sudden shift from the Leafs head coach but here's a look at how the other three lines break down:
