Breaking: Leafs waive former top prospect
Wow, that’s surprising. I guess the 25-year-old will have to find a new home for 2017-18.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed defenseman Alexey Marchenko on waivers today. The team is expected to make an official announcement regarding the transaction tomorrow afternoon.
Presumably the Leafs are looking to cut ties with the 25-year-old Russian defender in the hopes of ushering in some of the team’s offseason additions. Does this open the door for 17th overall draft choice Timothy Liljegren?
In just 40 NHL games split between the Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings, Marchenko scored one goal and eight points.
