The Edmonton Oilers have signed centre Leon Draisaitl to an eight-year contract extension, through the 2024-25 season, with an average annual value of $8.5 million.
The forward tied for the team lead with 27 power play points (3G, 24A) last season. He was also very successful in the playoffs, recording 16 points over 13 games.
During the sixth game of the Western Conference semi-final to keep the Oilers alive in the series, Draisaitl scored a hat trick. He became the second youngest Oiler to record a hat trick in the playoffs, trailing only Wayne Gretzky.
In 191 regular season games, he has 50 goals and 87 assists.
