Breaking: Lucic has signed a massive new contract.

You can officially call an end to the race for Milan Lucic.

As many believed he would, the big physical forward has made the decision to become a member of the Edmonton Oilers, signing a massive new contract with the organization.

According to a report from Sportsnet insider Nick Kypreos Lucic and Emonton agreed to a contract with the maximum allowable term of 7 years, and over that term Lucic will earn an average annual value of $6 million, 

It's a big time price tag for the Oilers, but perhaps they had no choice but to give extra years to lure quality free agents to that market, and while this contract may not look so good 7 years down the line, for now the Oilers have secured one of the top free agents forwards on the market.
