USA Hockey has just announced the management and coaching staff for its 2018 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team.
With the absence of NHL players for the upcoming Olympics, the organization has turned primarily to the collegiate ranks for the recruitment of its staff.
In so doing, USA Hockey have named Tony Granato, head coach of the University of Wisconsin men's ice hockey team, as head coach of Team USA. This confirms earlier reports that we had circulated yesterday.
As per usahockey.com, joining Granato behind the bench will be assistant coaches Keith Allain, Ron Rolston, Scott Young, and more importantly three-time Stanley Cup champion Chris Chelios.
The organization made the following comments:
"We’re thrilled to have such an experienced group leading our men’s Olympic team. These individuals have been a part of some significant moments in USA Hockey history, from winning championships as players to building gold medal-winning teams as staff members.”
In addition to the coaching staff, USA Hockey also promote Jim Johannson to the general manager position, while Ben Smith will serve as director of player personnel.
The 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics will take place from February 9 to February 25, 2018.
