Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene has been traded. This according to a report from Sportnet's Elliotte Friedman.
More to come.
UPDATE: The details of the trade from Elliotte Friedman below.
The blockbuster trade signals the end of a year long saga in which Avs GM Joe Sakic attempted to offload Duchene. While the Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators have both been in the mix the entire time, it finally took a three-way deal to get the job done.
With Turris landing in Nashville, Preds GM David Poile has finally found the 1A center that he has been looking for since Mike Fisher retired this past offseason. With Duchene landing in Ottawa, Sens GM Pierre Dorion has a bit of cost certainty heading into the offseason. And Sakic, the lone holdout in all of this... finally has his bounty of picks and prospects. It took longer than anyone would have ever imagined, but Matt Duchene has FINALLY been traded. Take a breath, hockey fans.
