Breaking: Matvei Michkov is coming to Philadelphia.
Multiple sources indicate that the highly touted Russian forward is on his way to North America.
It would appear as though the Philadelphia Flyers are on the verge of making a massive addition to their roster, one that has been highly anticipated to put it mildly.
An early report from Hockey New Hub indicated this morning that there was a strong possibility that former Flyers first round pick Matvei Michkov was on the verge of making the move to North America.
Michkov was of course selected by the Flyers in the first round (7th overall) of the 2023 National Hockey League Entry Draft, a risky pick given that there were concerns about whether or not he would be able to make the move to North America.
Michkov now joining the Flyers seems all but official, with the Philadelphia Inquirer's Jackie Spiegel reporting that a source within the Flyers organization has officially confirmed that Michkov has terminated his contract with his current team, SKA St. Petersberg of the Kontinental Hockey League.
Michkov had a breakout season with Sochi HC of the KHL this past season, scoring 19 goals and adding 22 assists for a total of 41 points over 47 games while often playing against larger and more experienced opponents.
It is unclear what exactly the next step for Michkov will be moving forward, but it seems likely that the Flyers will move quickly to get him signed and get him him cleared to play hockey in the National Hockey League this coming season.
Stay tuned for more on this quickly developing story.
