The Minnesota Wild and Buffalo Sabres have teamed up to make a huge trade just one day in advance of the opening of NHL free-agency. The deal, as reported by Minneapolis Star Tribune writer Michael Russo, involves four players and a draft pick:

Wow, that’s a big deal. Scandella’s name has been on the trade market for awhile, but to see him actually get moved must come as a bit of a shock to Wild fans. Pominville, at this point in his career, is essentially a cap dump.

As for the Sabres, they’ll part ways with two long-time Sabres in Ennis and Foligno. Ennis had a terrible season for the Sabres in 2016-17, scoring just five goals and 13 points in 51 games. The Wild clearly hope he can get back to the 20 goal, 40+ point status he held in past seasons.

So, who wins this trade? It’s obviously too early to tell, but it’s clear that the overhaul in Buffalo by new general manager Jason Botterill isn’t over yet.
