Breaking: More bad news for the hopeless Canucks

Things could get real ugly in Vancouver, real quick...

The Vancouver Canucks have placed veteran Loui Eriksson on injured reserve. The 32-year-old winger appeared to fall awkwardly onto his knee in Saturday’s 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames and has not been on the ice since.

The extent, or true nature, of Eriksson’s injury has not yet been revealed by the team, but by virtue of being placed on IR the timeline of his absence will likely be measured in weeks, not days.

The hard luck Swedish forward has had a dreadful time in Vancouver since signing an enormous six year, $36 million contract in the summer of 2016. Thought to be the solution alongside the team’s leaders Henrik and Daniel Sedin, Eriksson has struggled mightily wherever he’s been placed in the lineup.

With just 11 goals and 24 points in 65 games last season and just a single assist through four games this season, Eriksson and his $6 million annual salary are becoming a HUGE anchor for the already struggling Canucks.
