We’re just minutes before the puck drops on Game 1 of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Bruins’ opening round playoff series and apparently there’s still some confusion as to who will be backing up Leafs starter Frederik Andersen.

Despite being exiled from the team for a 10 day sabbatical earlier this week, backup Garret Sparks has re-joined the team due to the birth of Michael Hutchinson’s first child. Hutchinson and his wife welcomed a healthy baby boy into the world yesterday and Hutchinson re-claimed his backup position… or so we thought.

Leafs insider Chris Johnston of Sportsnet is now reporting that it’s in fact Sparks who will back up Andersen tonight.

Uh… what on Earth is going on!?

Just earlier today head coach Mike Babcock confirmed that Sparks won’t be joining the team for at least another week…

“Really [Sparks] is not back here any sooner in my mind,” said Leafs’ coach Mike Babcock. “He’s filling in for a day or two here while Hutch and his wife welcome their child. But the 10-day program he was on, he’s still on. We won’t deviate from that.”

And yet, Sparks will suit up tonight. What gives?
