The Edmonton Oilers have landed themselves a coveted head coach.
The organization is expected to formally announce the hiring of former San Jose Sharks head coach Todd McLellan later this week, possibly as early as Tuesday.
McLellan, 47, spent the past seven seasons as the head coach of the Sharks, but was unable to get a solid squad claim their first Stanley Cup.
The Oilers have been very busy as of late. They hired former Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli and were awarded the 1st Overall-pick in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft.
A former Mike Babcock assistant coach in Detroit, the Melville, Sask., native has a coaching record of 311-163-66 with the Sharks, including three division titles and a Presidents’ Trophy in 2008-09.
